**"Mae Mae School" **

Mae Mae School is a boarding school that accepts children from various areas and ethnic groups to provide them with education and knowledge. The school offers opportunities to children who live in remote, underprivileged areas, particularly those residing in the mountainous regions where different tribes live. This area is still far from urban development, and another key goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to officially become Thai citizens.

The school is located quite far from Chiang Mai city, approximately 75 km away if you measure from the Mosse Hotel Super Highway. The main road leading there is a well-paved two-lane road. However, after turning into the small road towards Mae Mae village, it becomes narrower, almost a single lane in some parts, making it difficult to pass. The road has numerous curves, and some sections run along cliffs, requiring drivers to honk for safety around blind corners. It takes a considerable amount of time to reach the village because even Google Maps can be confused by the winding roads and intersections. To avoid getting lost, its best to follow signs for Mae Mae village. Initially, I was worried about going the wrong way, but after following the path for a while, I was relieved to finally find the village sign, and we successfully reached our destination.

The school itself is quite simple, with single-story buildings that divide the classrooms by grade, with only one classroom per grade. There are about 100 students in total, with approximately 80-90% of them coming from various tribes. There were not many Thai students present when we visited, as some of the children had gone back to celebrate New Year's with their tribes. The schools layout blends well with the natural surroundings, including a playground and a small hut near a stream where some classes are held. The school also grows vegetables and raises chickens for eggs, which they use for their own consumption.

Although the school receives a limited budget, they must cover meal costs for all three daily meals for the children. The cost per meal is about 20-27 THB per student. Besides food, the school also needs daily necessities such as shampoo, detergent, toothpaste, tissue paper, school supplies, seasoning, cooking oil, and milk.
